Can You Have a GIF as a Banner on Discord?

Are you one of the many users of Discord? If so, you can upload files in GIF format. However, keep in mind that you can crop images after uploading them, but not GIFs. If you're trying to upload a GIF as an avatar, make sure you have at least one Discord Classic subscription. Sometimes, the Discord server may consider the GIF as an image when it is loaded from the camera roll, so uploading it as a file should solve the problem.

Now that this feature has been implemented, Nitro users have the option to create and upload custom profile banners that reflect their interests or personality. Instead of uploading GIFs from the gallery or internal storage, use a GIF app like GIPHY to upload or share GIFs. This 600x240 banner can be as simple as a solid color or have an eye-catching animation to match an animated server icon. However, for many users, a poor internet connection causes the GIF to not load properly, and the Discord server receives a damaged GIF file that it cannot play.

You can coordinate the banner to match your profile picture, show off your favorite game character, or display a cool illustration. To fix this issue for desktop and Android users, turn on the option “automatically play GIFs when possible” in the Discord settings. Please note that this is a different size than the standard 1920 x 1080 server banner that moderators can use to set up a new Discord server. In addition, this problem does not exist on mobile (perhaps partly because the GIF does not normally stay loaded for a long time).

In some cases, your profile may not sync correctly with the Discord server, causing GIFs not to work or upload and creating problems. If for some reason the GIFs don't play when you upload them from the camera roll, try uploading them as files instead. Open GIPHY and search for the GIF you want to edit, or tap the plus button at the bottom to access GIFs from your camera roll. I recently got personal Nitro after being without it for some time and my profile picture GIF doesn't play in a loop either; it looks like a regular photo until you check my profile. GG makes it easy to find the best profile pictures and banners to use on Discord, TikTok, Twitter and anywhere else.
