Can I Use GIFs for My Discord Banner?

If you're already a Discord user, you can upload files in GIF format. However, keep in mind that you can crop images after uploading them, but not GIFs. When you make your profile banner a GIF, it appears animated in the preview, but as soon as you save the changes, it becomes static. To get the GIF you want, simply search for it on a website like GIPHY and copy and paste its associated link into a text channel or save it to your desktop. GIFs are especially popular on the Discord communication platform, as they are often used by players, interest groups and fan clubs to quickly express their thoughts and feelings to each other.

Sometimes, the Discord server may consider the GIF as an image when it is loaded from the camera roll, so uploading it as a file solves this problem. Turning on the option “automatically play GIFs when possible” fixed this issue for desktop and Android users. In this case, instead of uploading GIFs from the gallery or internal storage, use a GIF app like GIFY to upload or share GIFs. If, for some reason, the GIFs don't play when you upload them from the camera roll, try uploading the GIFs as a file. Please note that this is a different size than the standard 1920 x 1080 server banner that moderators can use to set up a new Discord server.

GIF Picker offers a huge collection of regularly updated GIFs from various sources sorted into several categories depending on theme or emotion. Finally, you can create your own GIF with a GIF maker and then share it to Discord in the same way as above. Open GIPHY and search for the GIF you want to edit, or tap the plus button at the bottom to access the GIFs from your camera roll. These GIFs take longer to load on the platform, but they will still be embedded in the channel for all your friends to see. If you're trying to upload a GIF as an avatar, make sure you have at least one Discord Classic subscription.

In some cases, your profile may not sync correctly with the Discord server, causing problems with uploading and playing GIFs. But for many users, a poor internet connection can cause the GIF to not load properly and the Discord server gets a damaged file that it can't play.
